#Day 1, Scheme and Syllabus....

Public Service Commission, West Bengal has introduced a Combined 
Competitive Examination for recruitment to the West Bengal Civil 
Services (Executive) and certain other services in two successive stages 
viz. (1) Preliminary Examination (Objective type) for the selection of 
candidates for the Main Examination
(2) Main Examination (Bengali, English and Optional Paper Descriptive, Rest papers are objective) and interview.

The Preliminary Examination is to be held in various centres of West 
Bengal sometime in the month of February (Unofficial announcement) and the Main Exam. In the 
month of June - July..

Eligibility Criteria : A Degree of a recognised University (No restrictions in Percentage)....

Age - Shouldn't be less than 21 for A, C, D Group, 
For Group B, not below 20 Years....

N. B - Presently there is no bar for appearing at the Exam, subject to admissibility of age (i.e 32 years for General Castle), Age relaxation is available for Backward Caste....

Preparation Strategy and Study Plan:

Scheme of the Preliminary Examination : The Preliminary, Examination will consist of only one Paper, viz., a paper on 'General Studies '. The Paper will be an objective type consisting of 
200 multiple-choice questions. The paper  will  carry  200 marks and will be of 2.30 hours duration.... 
The standard of the paper will be of the level of knowledge as expected of a graduate of any 
faculty of a recognized University. The paper will include questions covering the following fields of knowledge :

(i) English Composition 25 Marks

(ii)  General Science  25 Marks

(iii)  Current Affairs 25 Marks

(iv) History of India 25 Marks

(v) Geography of India With special reference to West Bengal  25 Marks

(vi) Indian Polity and Economy 25 Marks

(vii)  Indian National Movement 25 Marks

(viii) General Mental Ability 25 Marks

Total Marks 200, And If you're able to score 60% of total marks i.e 120, There is a Cogent chance to be appeared in Mains...

Compulsory Papers:

Paper I

Bengali /Hindi /Urdu/ Nepali/ Santali : Letter Writing (within 150 words) / Drafting of Report (within 200 words), Précis Writing, Composition and Translation from English to Bengali/Hindi/ 
Urdu/Nepali/Santali

Paper II
English- Letter writing (within 150 words) 
Drafting of Report (within 200 words), Précis Writing, Composition and Translation from Mother Tongue...

Paper III

General Studies -1 : (i) Indian History with 
special emphasis on National Movement and (ii) Geography of India with special reference to Westbengal

Paper IV 
General Studies -II : Science and Scientific & Technological advancement, Environment, General Knowledge and Current Affairs.

Paper V
The Constitution of India and Indian 
Economy. Including role and function of Reserve Bank of India..

Paper VI
Arithmetic and Test of Reasoning.

Six Compulsory papers, each carried 200 marks.... 
200×6=Total 1200 Marks....  

Optional Paper :

There is a list of optional papers(37 Subjects) . A candidate is at liberty to choose Optional Papers from that list. Each subject contains two papers & carries and allows three (3) hours time to complete the same in each paper... 
Suggested Optional Paper- History, Geography, Bengali, Sociology and Anthropology...

Marks 200×2 =400

N.B - No need to take optional paper for Group C & D...

Personality Test :

For Group 'A' & ' B' 200 marks, For C 150,  100 marks for Group D..  

So,  Total Marks 1800 for Group 'A' & 'B',  1350 for Group 'C' and 1300 for Group D......

Preferable Book:Indian Polity for Civil Service M Laxmikanth..

I know a question has appeared in your mind.. Why not DD Basu?? My brother/cousin/friends suggested DD Basu.. Should I follow Laxmikanth or DD Basu.. What are the basic differences between them...

Answer:I felt DD Basu is written in obsolete language while M Laxmikanth is very lucid... DD Basu is composed in 'Bankim Chandra Style'.. Here I am giving two scanned pages from both of them.. I hope you will get an idea which book should you follow?

Now I'm providing you few Questions.. Try to solve this. If any problem occurred try to find out from Laxmikanth otherwise dig deep into the Internet.. In the meantime you'll be able to gather some new information.. Write down those information in diary..If still any question stuck in your mind go to the comment section. Preparation for WBCS MAIN :How to solve chronological order (HISTORY)

Those who are preparing for Main, first you have to do fight against your Fear.. 'Kyon Ki Darr ke age Jeet Hain '

Here I'm posting a model question on history to give you an insight about Mains paper .. Forget about Last year's main, it was easy because they took Main exam for the first time in objective Question pattern. This time 'You have to prepare for the best and hope for the worst(Whatever I do)...

Chronological order seems to be a barred when you are facing it for the first time.. Similarly it would be very  Engrossing if  you put gusto in it.. Those who are preparing for UPSC type exam like DNA CDS, This post is not for you.. You're very familiar with this pattern. 


There are few books name.. You have to arrange these in chronological order in which they were composed..
I'll solve this question in two ways.. Firstly I will go through the book name and their contemporary period.. Secondly I'll solve this with the help of options..

The very First Way:

Gita Govinda :Whatever we know :The writer of Gita Govinda is Jayadev, He is believed to be the court poet of Lakshman Sen,Who ruled in the 12th-13th Century..

Vinayapitaka :Whatever we know :is a part of Buddhist literature(Pali Language) basically monastic codes are written there.(Buddhist Period).

Atharva Veda: Whatever we know:the fourth and the last Veda, basically it's a book of magical formula.. (Vedic Period)

Raghuvansha :Whatever we know :is a Sanskrit epic poem by Kalidasa. His period was linked to the reign of Vikramaditya (Gupta Period)

Now, it is very easy to be answered.. The sequence should come in this way.. 
Vedic Period >Buddhist Period >Gupta Period >Lakshman Sen or Early Medieval Period....

So the answer is B(3241)..

The Second Way:With the help of Options :
From the options it is easy to find out That the Vedic period comes first.. SO The should start with 3... Both Option B and C are started with 3.So here we will think about option B and C.. Rest option is forgotten.. After Vedic Period Buddhist era comes. Have a look on option no.  B.. It combines with 3241..
Yes it is the correct answer.. Indeed it is the best way to solve chronological order..

Illegal Tips :Whenever you see there are two(common) options starting with the same number, give emphasis on those particular option.. Like here both options B and C are started with 3...

WBCS Preliminary   এক্সাম হয়ে গেল,যাদের পরীক্ষা ভালো হল এক প্রকার নিশ্চিত Main দেওয়ার জন্য ডাক পাবে প্রস্তুতি এখন থেকেই শুরু করা উচিৎ। আর যাদের খারাপ হল মনোভাবটা অনেকটা এরম হওয়া উচিৎ যতক্ষণ Selected না হচ্ছি ততক্ষণ আমার প্রস্তুতি চলতেই থাকবে। যাদের Score 100 এর বেশী হচ্ছে, তারা Main পড়তে থাকো,যাদের এর থেকে কম তারা প্রিলিমস এর জন্যে প্রস্তুতি নেবে তবে এখন ই নয়। SSC CGL TIER I এর Advertisement বেড়িয়েছে,যারা Math এ ভালো আর ইংলিশ মোটামুটি, অথবা English এ ভালো  Math ও খারাপ হয়না,আর দেড়ি না করে আজই Form Fill  up করে দাও। যারা প্রচুর পরিশ্রম করেছো অথচ পরীক্ষা আসানুরুপ হয়নি,বৃথা চিন্তা না করাই ভাল,যদিও চিন্তা থেকে মুক্তি নেই।খুব শীঘ্র স্কুল সার্ভিস কমিশনের বিজ্ঞাপন বেড়োনোর সম্ভাবনা আছে। আরেকটা সম্ভাবনা আছে বি.এড ছারা পরিক্ষাতে বসতে পারার।অনার্স কেটাগরির পরীক্ষার্থীদের সাব্জেক্টের এমসিকিউ হতে পারে।কলা বিভাগের পাস এর পরীক্ষার্থীদের পরীক্ষা হবে TET+ জেনারেল স্টাডিজ এর উপর ভিত্তি করে আর বিজ্ঞান বিভাগেরTET+ জেনারেল সাইন্সের উপর। তাই আমার মনে হচ্ছে আরেকটা সুযোগ অপেক্ষা করছে। তাই পুরনো কথা ভেবে লাভ নেই,নতুন করে ভাবতে শুরু কর।
